La qualité est là . .

I have been in search of the prefect IEM for a long time now, even giving up on the format for a while. My first real foray into the IEM world was with the ATH-CKW1000ANV and they were where I found the sound I was looking for but it had numerous issues and led to the JVC HA-FXZ200 and these were exceptional but required using the tipple flange tips to get a great seal and the bass that would dig into the basement. After looking at a ton of reviews I made a major investment into the FIIO fh7... and was thoroughly disappointed. While a technically accurate headphone it was not one I got much enjoyment out of as it became sibilant at moderate volumes. In short they were not the headphone for me despite being the flagship at the time. Looking back I should have picked up the FH5 as it seems to have the musicality I am looking for. So buyers remorse is kicking in hard but FIIO throughs me a bone and announces that there is yet a higher end model coming and I do my best *shut up and take my money* and picked these up on launch day.... The presentation is lovely and everything feels like money well spent. The interchangeable 1/8" 2.2mm and 4.4mm are a boon and must be praised. And speaking on the cable I give it full marks it looks lovely and feels good in the hand.On to sound. These are it. This is what music should sound like to me when I put these on with no eq or trickery. They rock and crank up without any hint of sharpness or overdrive. One of my favorite test tracks is Finks live troubles what you are in. In this you get an acoustic performance that you can hear the strings plucked while the acoustic bass guitar vibrates your eardrums but never gets muddled and the box drum is clear. All summed it is the best experience I have had to date and I set the bar high here with the headphone corner defended by the meze elites and the speaker corner defended by my legacy signatures. The FIIO's pack all that fighting power in a manageable price tag.Ear bliss with no down sides... would be a six out of five if I could but five or five stars will suffice.

I have spent a fortune of headphones. Usually open backed Grado headphones, two pairs were over a grand. These blow everything I have tried out of the water. They are very comfortable. I can wear them all day. I use with high end audio equipment and hi res audio files. The sound could not be bettered for me. I hear stuff on albums I have had 50yrs that I didn’t know was there. If it’s any help my hearing was tested a few months ago and in is still 100% even though have always liked my music loud. I listen to Kate Bush, Dylan, Carly Simon, Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, Jake Bugg, Mary Gauthier, Iris Dement, Enigma and more. Quite an eclectic taste and these iems do very well on all.

I’ve enjoyed my FIIO FH7s for over a year and hesitated to move up to the 9s. After checking online reviews I wasn’t quite sure. Some seemed pretty critical of the upgrade, but then that’s the internet. Finally made the decision and WOW! There’s a depth and soundstage that, for my ears, are better than any headphones I’ve had before. I find them very comfortable. I’m using them with the BTR5 to make them wireless. For me, it’s a terrific combination. Only one problem - FIIO now has the BTR7. I’ve been so pleased with this upgrade that I suspect we all know what’s next.
